Sycamore Creek Croc's CHOMP!
Cooperative- Follow directions the first time given and work together
Honest- Be truthful and fair and set a good example
On Task- Remain on and task. Raise your hand before speaking and moving.
Mindful- Treat others with respect, be kind, and keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
Prepared- Come to school ready to learn.
In our fourth grade classroom, we hold each student to high behavioral expectations. Students will see that their behavior directly impacts how much, and how well, they and their classmates learn. The systems in place for this year include:
A.)At Sycamore Creek students are expected to CHOMP!
The is our school-wide PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support) system whereby any adult in the school can give Chompliments to our class when when displaying Cooperative, Honest, ON Task, Mindful and Prepared behavior. Our class earns Chompliments in the cafeteria, all specials and in the hallway. Classes will earn rewards throughout the year when Chompliments accumulate.
B.) Think Sheets, Calls Home, Office-
“UnCHOMP”-like behavior (repeated calling out, uncooperative group work, off task behaviors, disrespectful, unkind, etc.) will result in increasing consequences beginning with a warning. After one to two warnings, the student will complete a think sheet about what CHOMP characteristic they were not demonstrating, after completing the think sheet if the student continues the behavior they will asked to visit another classroom to write parents a reflection letter. Parents will receive teacher communication at this point along with their child’s reflection letter. We ask that you discuss the behavior with you child to ensure their success for the next day. If behaviors continue past this point, the student will be referred to the office and a parent, teacher, student conference will be scheduled.
C.) Individual Class Rewards-
Students will have the opportunity to earn individual rewards within the classroom as well as Chompliments for the entire class. Sticker Charts, Student Tickets, Team Points and other various systems will be used in the classroom to reward individual behavior this year. Homework passes, treasure box visits, fun Fridays and extra technology time are some examples of individual rewards.
Students have received a planner and have organized their binders and desks in a clear, simple manner. We expect students to write down their homework, completely each day. They should also write down special projects or long-term information. Depending on the students’ day, your teacher may write a brief note. Parents are strongly encouraged to look at the planner each night, verify the homework has been completed and sign at the bottom. This will help keep you informed about your child’s work habits.
Missing homework will result in the student completing a “Missing Homework” slip. This will be sent home in Friday Folders or in the planner. Please sign it and return the next day. If your student completes the work, you may attach it to the slip.
Each week students will receive a Friday Folder Progress Report. This will inform you of your child’s work habits and conduct for the past week. If the student receives a “2” in conduct or work habits this could result in missing a class reward.
In efforts to make students more responsible and to advocate for their learning, we expect that they will complete assignments in a reasonable amount of time. If they choose not to use their time wisely or feel they need extra support/ work time we will schedule a “Lunch Bunch”. During this time, students will eat their lunch while working on incomplete assignments.
We want to promote a positive, increasingly independent environment and feel that parent/teacher communication is key to our success. If you have questions, comments, or information to share, please feel free to email us or call to schedule a conference.
